Join Mercy for Animals and The Humane League for double demonstration as we target two major chains for their failure in chicken welfare. Chickens suffer some of the most horrific forms of abuse in our broken food system. In response to growing public concern, companies all over the world have pledged to eliminate some of the most extreme causes of suffering for chickens in their egg and meat supply chains.
We will meet at 11:30 AM outside of the Waldorf Astoria hotel to demand they commit to sourcing entirely cage-free eggs.
While millions of hens who are used for their eggs suffer in miserable wire cages where their feet are slashed, live on top of their own feces and inhale ammonia fumes that destroy their respiratory tracts, these companies neglect promises made to their guests and the public. Greedy corporations must not get away with this heartbreaking animal abuse.
At 1:00 pm we will walk a few blocks to the Chipotle at 109 E Pearson St, Chicago, IL 60611 to call on Chipotle to live up to its promises of transparency and image of strong animal welfare policies.
In 2017, Chipotle committed to meet Better Chicken Commitment standards by 2024. But the company has failed to share any progress toward meeting its breed goal and has reported minimal progress on eliminating live-shackle slaughter. Additionally, an undercover investigation documented extensive abuse. By fulfilling its promise, Chipotle could reduce much of the suffering Mercy For Animals’ investigation reveals.
