Animal Sanctuary Workday

-> 17314 McCourtney Rd, Grass Valley, CA 95949, USA

We have a wonderful opportunity to visit Animal Place in Grass Valley this month! Event Director Stevie Walsh has confirmed our visit so let's show her and the residents how we get things done! Since the inception of their Rescue & Adoption Program in 2010, Animal Place has rescued, rehomed, or provided permanent refuge to: 28,729 hens, 233 roosters, 64 goats, 27 turkeys, 12 pigs, 4 ducks, 24 pigeons, and many more! This is a day that sanctuaries count on all of us to show up and be able to work. There are small and large jobs to be done so don't worry if you can't lift a 50lb bag or bale of hay. We want you to engage with and love the animals, but we ask you to be mindful of their individual personalities. Some may love attention while others may not. We ask that nobody under the age of 10yo show up on these particular workdays. We appreciate everyone but need to make sure we are showing up to offer much needed assistance. Thank you for understanding. CARPOOLING Since Grass Valley is a long drive from Berkeley (2 1/2 hours), we encourage carpooling as much as possible. There will be a few cars leaving from the Animal Rights Center in Berkeley at 7:15am sharp so please arrive by 7:00am. We cannot delay the departure of these cars as it is very important to show the people at Animal Place that we respect their time. Reach out if you need a ride or can offer a ride at carla@dxe.io. FOOD Food/snacks will be provided but feel free to bring your own food. Make sure to have a water bottle to keep with you as you work. ATTIRE Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, jeans are best, and gloves (there may be a limited amount of gloves provided if you do not have your own). The ground conditions are unknown at this time so bring galoshes if you have them. Although the weather in Grass Valley will be pleasant, we recommend bringing layers as it can be cold early in the morning but will most likely get extremely hot by mid-day. WORK The staff will instruct us on what tasks are available for us to do. There will likely be simple jobs, dirty jobs (my favorite) as well as jobs that may require a higher level of physical fitness (my super favorite). No matter your physical abilities, though, there is plenty to do. Also, it is mandatory to sign this volunteer waiver! Link to be provided soon Spending time with the animals we are working to liberate is not only good for your mental health and well being but it reinforces our commitment to the cause.
