Nonviolence Training & Mass Open Rescue Experience

On September 7, 10am-6pm, join us for a comprehensive nonviolence training workshop led by Kazu Haga, a world-renowned trainer who was himself trained by leaders in the Civil Rights Movement such as Bernard Lafeyette. The workshop is designed to empower individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to create change – and promote peace and understanding in the animal rights movement. This interactive training will explore the principles of nonviolence, the power of nonviolence to create change, and strategies for creating a more harmonious movement.
On September 8 10am-6pm, join the Mass Open Rescue Experience. After two historic victories in court, join animal rights attorney and veteran rescuer Wayne Hsiung as he takes you behind the scenes of some of the most dramatic rescues and trials in animal rights history – and shows you how you can be a high impact part of the movement for open rescue! This interactive workshop takes participants through the entire process of planning and executing an open rescue – from initial surveillance to defending activists at trial. You will join a mock open rescue team and work with your team members in a simulated effort to expose cruelty and give aid to sick and dying animals. While the open rescue you are planning is simulated, the examples from the training are based on real events in history – including the Smithfield trial that ended with a full acquittal in October 2022.
NOTE: This special version of The Open Rescue Experience will be adapted for mass open rescues.
